Lighting a Candle Safely

Allow some time when you go shopping for candle holders. There are so many selections available that it will be difficult to choose just one or two from among them. Candle holders are great decorative ideas. They are, in fact, being used to adorn homes with or without the candle. Manufacturers are always updating their designs, coming out with unique and exciting styles every time.

Candle holders are made of different materials. These materials are supposed to be flame resistant. The more common ones are glass, ceramic and metal candle holders. Wood is also used, but these are combined with other materials to insure that flame will not have a chance to touch the wood. Anyway, lighted candles should never be left unattended regardless of the kind of material used in the holder. They should be kept away from highly inflammable materials such as paper and curtains.

Functional Decoration

Shabby chic typically refers to a type of design and decorating style that incorporates using furniture or furnishings chosen for their age and signs of wear and tear, or new items that are distressed to achieve the appearance of an antique. Examples of these may include shabby chic candle holders that are very popular for use as home décor nowadays. Most shabby chic pieces are meant to look as though they are old and worn, and have perhaps been handed down for several generations.

To accompany furniture and furnishings, shabby chic also usually features a wide variety of wallpapers, paintings, as well as linens that imitate the sense that things are old. One of the principal means of making things look older is to bleach fabrics. Linens should appear worn, although they are not, to pass off as shabby chic style. Some purists suggest that true shabby chic should be items that are really old. These items should normally be inherited from relatives, or gleaned from good yard sales or auctions.

A Necessary Characteristic of all Candle Holders

When candles became a major part of decorating the home, candle holders followed suit. Candles holders were in use since centuries back. Back then, candle holders were strictly functional items. They were used to hold the candle upright and at the same time catch wax drippings so that it will not damage furniture on which they are set. The iconic image of a vintage candle holder was that of a flat dish with a section in the center where candle tapers were inserted. It has a handle on one side which the person used to carry lighted candle around.

Candle holders have moved on from there. Now we are seeing all kinds of decorative candle holders that are fitted with candles of different shapes and sizes. There are tea light candle holders and vases in elegant stands for pillar candles. They all have one thing in common; that is, they are made of fireproof materials. Wrought iron candle holders are not only fire proof; they can also be handcrafted into elegant designs. Other materials used in modern candle holders are glass, metal and ceramics.

Elegant Candleholder

A candlestick, chamber stick, or candelabrum is a holder for one or more candles, used for illumination, rituals, or for decorative purposes. These candle holders are made from different types of materials. A pewter chamber stick is one of the more popular versions of these candle holders. The malleable nature of the metal alloy pewter is what makes it very popular to be made into different kinds of accessories such as a chamber stick.

Pewter is also used to make other things such as plates, mugs, and utensils. Caring for pewter accessories is relatively easy. This metal is susceptible to damage by acids, so it should promptly be washed with gentle soap and warm water if exposed to things like vinegar or lemon juice. A soft cloth or sponge should be used to avoid scratching the metal, and it should also be dried thoroughly. Pewter melts at low temperatures and should not be exposed to extreme heat.

Safe Candle Holders

We burn candles for different reasons. These days, the more common reason is to infuse some fragrance into a room. Fragrant candles do add ambience to a room. The flickering flames also contribute to a romantic feel. We want to enjoy these moments and not be harassed by accidents instead. So, we have to be reminded that safety precautions should be observed.

Candle holders are used to catch drippings from a burning candle. They also serve as protection to the furniture underneath and serve as decorative pieces as well. We have to choose our candle holders with care. Wooden candle holders may look polished and natural, but they are not the safest that you can find. You are better off with candle holders that are made of inflammable materials. Try ceramic, glass or metal.

A Durable Malleable Material that Continues to be Useful

Before the development of steel, wrought was the material of choice in the manufacture of a lot of products in industry and in households. For construction this malleable iron was made into nails, wires, pipes, nuts and bolts and many other strong and durable products. For homes they were used in constructing gates and garden furniture. The term ‘wrought’ meant ‘worked’ because the material was worked by hand. The demand for the material peaked around the mid 1800s and then demand for it declined with the introduction of steel.

Today wrought iron is still a material to contend with. It is used in the production of outdoor furniture because of its resilience against the weather. They are durable, practically indestructible if properly cared for. Small decorative and functional pieces such as a wrought iron wine bottle candle holders and display shelves are still in use in many homes. They may get rusty after a while but this is something that a little bit of sanding and painting can easily repair.

The Message that Angel Images Bring

The angel image has been a popular depiction in many decorative pieces. We find them in clothing items and accessories, jewelry, wall pieces, home decorations and many more. Angel images are popular in jewelry, specially in children jewelry. Angel charms are popular with teeners to add to their charm collection. It can be a praying child angel on her knees or just a moody Raphael’s face on a heart shaped charm.

In the home, an angel candle holder will be a major part of decorations for the holidays. Angels, in fact, can be a theme by itself. There are hanging cherubims that decorate the tree and garlands. We also find them printed on plates and serving dishes on the holiday spread. I guess it is because the angel image brings peace and serenity wherever it is in display.

Cute Container

Candelabra are candlesticks with two or more branching arms connected to a column or pedestal. Traditionally, these were used as a source of light, and they are still used today more often as ornaments inside the house. A mini candle candelabra is a perfect example of a candelabra that is being used as an ornament. It provides an accent that is most often used in the dining room area of a home.

This versatile item can still be used as a backup source of light just in case of a power outage. Most homes that use a candelabra as decoration often place candles on them to be used in cases such as those mentioned. A candelabra will provide ample light since at least two candles are lighted instead of just one. It is also very convenient to carry these lights around because of the way that it is designed.

Going Asian

If you are a minimalist person and you are thinking of redecorating your bedroom, going for the Asian theme is your perfect choice. Asian inspired bedroom is very easy to achieve with just a little ingenuity. Even a simple rice paper room divider could make a huge statement by simply setting the divider right against the wall. This is a great idea if you have an apartment and changing the color of the walls is not allowed. But if painting your walls is not a problem, try using deep red paint even in just one side of the wall. This can serve as the focal point in your bedroom.

To achieve the total look, you can also include Asian style potted plants and use some unusual knick knacks like geisha girl figurines or anything with an Asian look to add some punch to your bedroom. Putting more touches such as Asian inspired tealight candle holder, or hanging a beautiful silk kimono on the wall can make your bedroom look like it was done by an interior designer.
